Eco-friendly Thanksgiving Tips
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it's the perfect time to embrace eco-friendly practices and celebrate a sustainable holiday. In this month's newsletter, we're sharing tips and ideas for a green Thanksgiving that not only honors tradition but also our beautiful planet.
Mindful Menu Planning
Consider serving a plant-based or vegetarian Thanksgiving meal. If you do include meat, opt for locally sourced, organic options to reduce your carbon footprint. Support local farmers in your area. Knowing what they feed their Turkeys, chickens and ducks are important. Plus money goes back into their family.
Buy Local and Seasonal
Support local farmers by purchasing seasonal fruits and vegetables for your Thanksgiving feast. It's a great way to reduce food miles and support your community. We know how important that is supporting them!
Reduce Food Waste
Plan your portions carefully to minimize food waste. Have storage containers ready to send guests home with leftovers or donate excess food to a local shelter. Also when preparing vegetables use the scraps to put in your compost bin.
Eco-Friendly Decorations ( Have the kids help with this one.) Make it a scavenger hunt. Using natural elements like pinecones, gourds, and fallen leaves for table decorations. They can be composted afterward or returned to nature.
Reusable Tableware
Instead of disposable plates and utensils, opt for reusable tableware made from bamboo, wood, or other sustainable materials. If you must use disposables, choose biodegradable options. We know washing dishes can be a pain but it will help reduce waste.
DIY Centerpieces
Get creative with homemade centerpieces, like mason jar vases filled with wildflowers, pine branches, branches with lights or a DIY gratitude tree where guests can add their notes of thanks.
This Thanksgiving, let's make a conscious effort to give thanks not only for the food on our tables but also for the planet that sustains us.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous and eco-friendly Thanksgiving! Thank you for blessing our PÜR Evergreen Family.
